ABOUT

Jill Alaers and Tig

Hi!

I’m Jill Alaers, the heart behind JLA Counselling. I am a queer, neurodivergent, Registered Social Worker in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. I have been a practicing social worker for over 15 years in health care, and bring a unique blend of education, professional expertise and personal insights into my practice.

Growing up in a remote area of Northern Saskatchewan with undiagnosed ADHD, I faced many challenges navigating life and finding my true identity in a setting where I often felt different and isolated.

My journey to self-acceptance has been long and complex, but it has shaped who I am today, and fuels my commitment in helping others to heal, especially those who may feel marginalized or misunderstood.

My approach to therapy is both compassionate and holistic, blending trauma-informed, person-centred practices with mindfulness and somatic techniques.

Spirituality also holds a meaningful place in my life and practice. I honour each person’s beliefs and experiences, viewing healing as not just a mental and emotional journey but a spiritual one as well.

My goal is to support adults and young adults, especially those within or allied with the 2SLGBTQ+ community, as they work through complex trauma, depression, anxiety, ADHD, and other life challenges.

Outside of work, I’m often outdoors going for walks, gardening, paddle boarding, doing yoga, or reflecting on nature’s beauty with my dog, Tig.

To anyone reading this, please know that healing is possible. You are worthy and you are loved.
